SBL Round 10: Al Hilal is defeated by Al Nassr in a derby game

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Riyadh: Al Nassr (#2) and Al Hilal (#5). Al Nassr (8-2) won against visiting Al Hilal (6-4) 88-79. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Al Hilal. Al Nassr made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. American swingman Brandon Austin (198-1994, college: NW Florida St.) had a double-double by scoring 26 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import forward Antonio Campbell (206-1994, college: Ohio) chipped in 29 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side international center Mohammed Alsuwailem (211-1998) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. Al Nassr maintains second position with 8-2 record having just two points less than leader Al Ahly. Defending champion Al Hilal keeps the fifth place with four games lost. They share the position with Ittihad and Al Wehda. Al Nassr are looking forward to face Al Fateh (#3) in Al Hasa in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Al Hilal will play at home against Ohod and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Even 21 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists by Tunisian swingman Islem Elajmi (196-1991) did not help to save the game for Al Adalah. Undefeated Al Ahly have an impressive ten-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 10-0 record. Newly promoted Al Adalah keeps the eighth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Deba. Al Ahly will play against Al Ansar (#11) in Medina in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Al Adalah will play on the road against Al Salam in Al-Awamiyah and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 10: Al Wehda destroyed Al Ansar on the opponent's court 89-64. Bottom-ranked Al Taawoun unfortunately lost to Ittihad in a home game 65-73. Al Fateh managed to beat Deba on the road 96-83. Ohod crushed Al Salam on its own court 113-88.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 33 points (!!!) and 5 assists by James Justice of Ohod.



Al Adalah - Al Ahly 49-101

SBL top team - Al Ahly (10-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed eighth ranked Al Adalah (3-7) 101-49. Al Ahly forced 19 Al Adalah turnovers and had a 35-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. American forward Devin Ebanks (206-1989, college: WVU, agency: Interperformances) notched a double-double by scoring 17 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and the other American import forward Deandre Liggins (198-1988, college: Kentucky) supported him with 10 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Al Ansar - Al Wehda 64-89

Very expected game in Medina where 11th ranked Al Ansar (1-9) was crushed by seventh ranked Al Wehda (6-4) 89-64. Al Wehda dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Al Ansar's 30. They outrebounded Al Ansar 52-28 including a 35-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Al Wehda players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. American point guard Chauncey Collins (183-1995, college: TCU) notched 28 points and 4 assists to lead the effort and the other American import forward Dewayne Jackson (203-1990, college: Morgan St.) supported him with 15 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Al Wehda players scored in double figures. Al Wehda's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 17 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists by Bahrain Khaled Saleh did not help to save the game for Al Ansar. Abdullah Alkuhayli added 7 points and 12 rebounds for lost side. Al Wehda have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Al Hilal and Ittihad. Al Ansar lost ninth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with nine games lost. They share it with Al Taawoun. Al Wehda will play against bottom-ranked Al Taawoun (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Al Ansar will play against the league's leader Al Ahly in Jeddah to get more than just one victory in their record.

Very predictable result when seventh ranked Ittihad (6-4) defeated on the road bottom-ranked Al Taawoun (1-9) 73-65. Tunisian point guard Omar Abada (189-1993) notched 25 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort and American power forward Charles Rhodes (203-1985, college: MSU) supported him with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Even a double-double of 19 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists by American guard Darious Clark (193-1990, college: Slippery Rock, agency: Domantay Sports) did not help to save the game for Al Taawoun. Serbian power forward Aleksandar Marelja (207-1992, agency: BeoBasket) added 20 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for lost side. Ittihad moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Al Hilal and Al Wehda. Al Taawoun lost eighth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom position with nine games lost. Not a big story in a game in Tabuk where 9th ranked Deba (3-7) was defeated by third ranked Al Fateh (7-3) 96-83. Al Fateh shot 61.1 percent from the field. American guard Cleveland Thomas (192-1993, college: WKU, agency: Slash Sports) notched 29 points and 5 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and Algerian forward Mohamed Harat (198-1990) supported him with 21 points and 12 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws). Al Fateh's coach used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Even a double-double of 24 points and 14 rebounds by Ukrainian center Vladyslav Koreniuk (210-1994, agency: BIG) did not help to save the game for Deba. Abdullah Aljohani added 18 points for lost side. Four Al Fateh and five Deba players scored in double figures. Al Fateh maintains third position with 7-3 record having just three points less than leader Al Ahly, which they share with Ohod. Deba at the other side dropped to the eighth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Al Adalah. Al Fateh will play against league's second-placed Al Nassr in Riyadh in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Deba will play on the road against Ittihad (#5) in Jeddah and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Forward Jordan Washington (203-1993, college: Iona, agency: Interperformances) notched a double-double by scoring 25 points and 17 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and point guard James Justice (178-1989, college: UT Southern) supported him with 33 points (!!!) and 5 assists (made all of his eight free throws). Even 34 points (!!!), 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals by forward Nick Stover (198-1993, college: USA) did not help to save the game for Al Salam. Center Anthony McClain (211-1988, college: Cincinnati) added 18 points and 9 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Ohod moved-up to third place, which they share with Al Fateh.
